POSTMODERNISM “The Spirit of the Age”

We define “Postmodernism” as a particular way of looking at a life or set of ideas.  It is perhaps more correctly referred to as “postmodernity” a characteristic of our culture that is gradually coming to distinguish much of our human activity… It is what is trending in the secular world.  We see postmodernism everywhere…. It has created a dilemma in the moral ethics of our society today. People have become blinded by the lack of knowledge of what contains the truth.  They say that the truth is how you see it. They rely on and put their faith in modern science, the government and all the worlds system. They accept the things of the world even without challenging the research or the avenues of knowledge by which these precepts were conceived by.  They are being tossed to and fro by whatever “New Age Doctrine” appears on the scene. God warns us in His word, not to be deceived!!!  We have entered an age where all reason has become null and void.

The postmodern age shadows the intellectual age “The Enlightened Age”. Which brings a new concept of having your own Spiritual light. They believe that is useless to speak in the name of…. or against …….Reason, Truth or knowledge. They believe that they create their own destiny and that there is no intrinsic nature in the world. How sad it must be to not believe in anything other than the power of your own intellectual ideas. Without reason in our lives there is nothing to challenge our mind, will or emotions. We have become like in the days of Noah; disobedient spirits who have become trapped by the creation of our own prison that they call freedom…. The world needs a Saviour whether they realize it or not. The postmodern age is based on a somewhat skewed sense of socialism; it dictates that all things in society are driven toward building the social identity of a person within secular humanism with no concern of their spiritual wellbeing.

Postmodernism affects every person, especially the believer in the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are faced with the challenge of presenting what the world would call an ancient text, the bible; as the truth. The world has been so desensitized to the adversary’s plan of destruction that their hearts have waxed cold to the Lord’s plan for their lives. Postmodernism has become a modern-day pandemic…. It creates uncertainty in all areas of life….. It is a fleeting vision with no true value. It is built on the ideals of a lost people grasping at a way to validate their very own existence.  We as followers of Christ must walk with the truth in our hearts ready to give a defence of the word of God; which has outlasted many cultural diversions through the ages.

We must activate the power of the Kingdom of God that He has given to us and that the enemy thinks he still controls. We have the authority over the darkness, we have the authority over the works of the enemy, and all authority was given to us by our Heavenly Father.  We must stand in that authority in unity to bring about change in the world.  For it is written that if two shall agree in my name it will come to pass. We as believer’s can cause the enemy to flee and breathe life back into the social worldviews to bring restoration to a denigrating moral order.  Jesus set us free not to be bound by worldly views or by skeptics of the faith. Through our freedom we can witness to the blind and restore their vision, we can make the deaf man hear and make the lame man walk….  Surely if we can do those things we should be able to plant a seed to change a mind. Each seed planted grows to cause affect to all others that they come in contact with.

They will see the truth of what a life of having a Saviour is, hear the voice of His Spirit, and walk in the way of the truth of our Lord Jesus Christ. No man can come to the father without first going to the son.Defend the Lord and His word!! Stand on the position of faith in your Loving Saviour!!  Amen

God Bless You & All Who Are Close to your Heart ♥  ~Sincerely Cindy

 Scriptures Reference

Deuteronomy 32:30  How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?

Matthew 13:15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

Matthew 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me

Ephesians 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive

1 Peter 3:19-21  19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ

  3. Hi Cindy, Great post, there is so much truth to what you say. You’ve nailed the spirit of the age. Thanks for your wisdom, I’m saving this. It is certainly a challenge presenting the bible as the truth, because of secular humanism. Presenting the bible as the truth is my goal. I want to be able to plant a seed to change a mind. My blog has attracted some New Age followers, who “have faith in faith”. I’m not sure what their filters are, but I keep praying for them that “the birds won’t take the seeds”.

    • Thank you I am happy you enjoyed the post. I have studied many different religions and philosophies, the one thing I have learned is that most their teaching was spun out of the bible and changed to suit their needs. Keep Praying and speaking the truth…God Bless♥

  4. I’m still learning from you, while I’m making my way to the top as well. I certainly liked reading everything that is written on your Site .Keep the articles coming. I loved it!

  5. Hi, Cindy…We share an interest in the effects of postmodernity. It’s amazing how much has changed in the last century. Until the 1950’s, America was living in Traditional times when Christianity was the religion of our nation and the Bible served as the basis for morality. Then in the 50’s America started moving into Modern times. Modernization led to changes in lifestyle, but America was still well-defined in how it lived. Then came the 60’s when everything began to change. The Baby Boomers were teens and young adults, rebelling against traditional ways and promoting “anything goes”. By the 1990’s America was living in Postmodern times (post modernity), the era we’re currently in. Christianity is no longer the “one” religion of our nation. We are in a time of pluralities when many influences affect our thoughts and decisions, including pluralities of religions. Many claim no affiliation to religion but consider themselves to be spiritual. Because of these changes and lack of a firm Christian foundation, America has lost its moral compass. Take marriage and the traditional family as an example. It can no longer be assumed that a family consists of a married mother, father, and children. Some families have single parents. Other families have mother/father figures, but they’re not married. Other families have same-sex parents. We’ve stopped teaching abstinence from sex for unmarried people and offer a morning after-pill, instead, available to 15-year olds, with no requirement to receive medical counseling.

There is a multitude of voices clamoring to be heard in post modernity, and they are trying to shush the Christian voice. As Christians, we must keep our voices firm and strong, always speaking in love, but standing our ground according to what the Bible teaches. This is especially important for today’s young people who are trying to find their way in a culture that offers little guidance. Today’s young people are open to new ideas, and many adults are searching for religious meaning and purpose in their lives. We must share live out our faith and share the love of Christ in ways that lead others to Him.

Thank you for the messages you share on your site that help to do just that. God bless you.

  6. […] The problem is our western societies beliefs and laws are being rebuilt on Secular humanism, and have been for years.  Secular humanism has no concern for a person’s spiritual well being.  Cindy Livingstone has described it in her post, POSTMODERNISM “The Spirit of the Age”; https://cindylivingstoneministries.wordpress.com/2013/02/26/postmodernism-the-spirit-of-the-age-2/ […]
